Our Story
First Herd Wagyu brings together two distinct expressions of Australian Wagyu, each shaped by its own genetics, breeding and selection. From flagship Fullblood Wagyu to Purebred Wagyu, both are united by an uncompromising focus on the beef.
The founding lineage
Fullblood | hand selected
FHW by Wally Rea is Wagyu selected beyond marbling alone.
Every carcass is individually hand selected for complete beef quality. Marbling is fundamental, but a high marble score alone is not enough to earn the FHW by Wally Rea name. That selection considers the complete expression of the beef including:
- MARBLING PERFORMANCE, FINENESS & DISTRIBUTION
- MEAT & FAT COLOUR
- EYE MUSCLE & CONFORMATION
At its foundation are Wally’s Fullblood Wagyu genetics, with a strong connection to the Japanese bloodlines that shaped his early Fullblood herd.
But lineage alone does not earn the name.
It is the combination of these bloodlines and rigorous individual selection that defines FHW by Wally Rea, resulting in extraordinary Australian Fullblood Wagyu created to deliver where it matters most: on the plate.
Generations in the making
purebred | mb6 - 9+
Stonehenge is Australian Purebred Wagyu with exceptionally high Wagyu content, far beyond that required for Purebred status.
The classification tells only part of the story. Stonehenge is the result of Japanese
Fullblood genetics being progressively bred through Wally’s original Australian cattle herd, creating cattle with increasingly high Wagyu content.
- AUSTRALIAN PUREBRED WAGYU
- MB 6-9+
- EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH WAGYU CONTEN
- FULLBLOOD JAPANESE GENETICS PROGRESSIVELY BRED THROUGH THE HERD
The origins of Stonehenge reach back to Wally’s Australian cattle herd, where Wagyu genetics were introduced over Murray Grey, Angus and Shorthorn females. As Fullblood
Japanese genetics became available, they were progressively bred through the herd.
Born at The Overflow and raised in the New England high country, Stonehenge is the distinctly Australian expression of this long-running breeding programme.
